Finnish companies keen to bring new technologies to boost Rwandan agriculture

A group of Finnish manufacturing companies has expressed strong interests in bringing their latest technologies and innovations to Rwanda that would help in boosting the country’s agricultural value chains.
These Finnish companies include JPT, BEST HOLE and KOMELOS supply equipment with latest technologies ranging from agro processing equipment to post-harvest and mechanization among others.
The Finnish companies expressed their interests while meeting with the Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources, Dr Gerardine Mukeshimana on November 30, 2016. The meeting was also attended by members of the Private Sector Federation (PSF) who run businesses related to agricultural value chains.
According to Markku Virtanem, Director of Business Development Africa at General Finland, who was also the head of delegation, the Finnish companies provide equipment with latest technologies that are easier to set up. They also offer technical support to those who are willing to use their equipment. The head of the Finnish delegation also added that their equipment meet the EU standards; which can boost exports for local agricultural commodities.
Local private sector operators welcomed the new technologies and expressed their interests in partnering with their Finnish counterparts to bring these innovations to Rwanda.
“The private sector is really excited and much interested in these new technologies,” pointed out Benjamin Gasamagera, the PSF chairman, adding that this is the right momentum for this business in Rwanda.
Some members of local private sector are negotiating with the Finnish companies so that they can provide them with the equipment.
Minister Mukeshimana commended the move and pledged the government support to make these new technologies work in Rwanda and contribute in improving productivity across Rwanda’s agricultural value chains.
These companies have been working with many African countries including DRC, Uganda, and Kenya and now they are targeting the east African market.
